This bilingual communication booklet was developed in response to the current refugee situation in Europe to support people with limited language skills in speaking and understanding. It covers selected everyday topics using corresponding PCS Thinline symbols with Arabic and German labels. Communication is understood as interaction between two or more people, therefore the booklet is designed not only to support refugees in expressing themselves, but also to assist conversation partners such as medical staff, shop assistants, public authority employees, neighbors or friends. The booklet follows a dialog based structure, allowing users to talk about themselves as well as ask questions. In medical contexts, professionals can use the booklet to explain procedures and reduce anxiety. To increase acceptance, separate versions for women and men are available, with differences in content and layout adapted to Arabic reading and page turning direction.
